What is the Time of Use rate?

For Heartland consumer-members who want to know exactly how much their energy use is going to cost them, our new Time of Use rate provides the predictability and consistency they need. Energy is somewhat more costly during the peak time from 3 to 8 p.m. every day, but is significantly cheaper at other times. Watch this video for a quick overview:

Bill Components:

  • Service availability charge: $39.00
  • Energy charge:
    • $0.182026 per kWh on peak (3 to 8 p.m.);
    • $0.078444 per kWh off peak (all other times)
    • Same energy charges apply 365 days a year
  • Peak charge: none

Who is eligible for this rate?

  • While Peak Savers will be the default rate for all residential consumer-members starting April 1, 2022, any Heartland consumer-member who is not on a prepaid account can can elect to switch to the Time of Use rate.

  • Visit the Rate Calculator Tool to determine which rate option is most likely to be best for you based on your past usage. You can request to be put on the Time of Use rate using the form on that page.
