Through
a
consistent,
efficient
use
of
electricity,
energy
consumption
and
energy
bills
can
be
managed.
When
our
members
use
electricity
efficiently,
their
homes
and
their
co-op
operate
efficiently.
Why
would
your
co-op
want
its
members
to
use
electricity
efficiently?
As
an
example,
if
a
large
number
of
homes
were
to
use
inefficient
cooling
systems
during
the
hottest
period
of
the
year,
it
would
be
a
waste
of
money
for
the
members
and
it's
likely
that
your
co-op
would
be
forced
to
pay
higher
wholesale
power
costs
-for
the
entire
year.
The
result
of
inefficient
cooling
can
mean
higher
year-round
energy
costs
for
the
co-op
and
it's
members.
As
a
benefit
of
membership,
your
co-op
offers
rebates
for
the
installation
of
energy
efficient
electric
water
heaters
and
heat
pumps.

There
are
as
many
tips
available
for
the
smart
and
efficient
use
of
energy
as
there
are
selections
and
models
of
appliances
and
building
methods
of
homes.
For
example,
a
refrigerator
made
in
the
1970's
would
cost
an
average
of
181
dollars
per
year
to
operate*.
Today,
appliances
that
meet
Energy
Star
guidelines
offer
better
operating
efficiencies.
In
other
words,
today
the
same
Energy
Star
labeled
refrigerator
would
cost
approximately
70
dollars
per
year
to
operate.(*Based
on
.10/kWh
rate).
